This is me

I’ve always been drawn to creativity, curiosity, and conversation—qualities that have shaped my life in unexpected and wonderful ways. Though my professional path has led me through the world of education, my journey started long before I ever stepped into a classroom...

Growing up, I was the kind of child who was always making something—drawing, painting, sculpting, or building elaborate architectural cushion forts (much to my mother's dismay). Art wasn’t just something I did; it was how I made sense of the world. I loved the way creativity could transform the ordinary into something meaningful, and that love only deepened as I got older. This passion led me to pursue degrees in Studio Art and Art History, where I developed not only my artistic skills but also a deep appreciation for how art connects us across time, culture, and experience.

My path to teaching was shaped by small, meaningful moments rather than a predetermined plan. It began with mentoring younger artists, helping friends understand concepts, and sharing my enthusiasm for creative problem-solving. Over time, I realized that teaching wasn’t just about instruction—it was about fostering curiosity, building connections, and inspiring others to find their own creative voice. In turn, teaching sharpened my own artistic perspective, pushing me to think more deeply and engage in an ongoing exchange of ideas. The energy of an active classroom, where creativity thrives through discussion and exploration, felt like a natural extension of my passion for art. Once I stepped into that space, I knew I had found something truly special.

Beyond my work, I’m a firm believer that learning never stops. I thrive on new ideas, whether it’s experimenting with emerging technology, diving into mythology and folklore, or simply having deep, meandering conversations with interesting people. I love a good story—be it through books, films, or tabletop role-playing games—and I’m fascinated by the ways narratives shape our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

When I’m not teaching, you’ll often find me in the ceramics studio, hands covered in clay, shaping new forms and experimenting with glaze chemistry. I’m drawn to the process of transformation—taking raw earth and turning it into something both functional and beautiful. This same fascination extends to my love of gardening, where I find joy in nurturing plants, watching them evolve through the seasons, and understanding the rhythms of growth. Exploring nature, whether through hiking, discovering hidden landscapes, or simply pausing to appreciate its quiet beauty, reinforces my deep appreciation for the organic and ever-changing. These moments—of shaping, growing, and discovering—are where I feel most connected to both my creative process and the world around me.

At my core, I believe in the power of curiosity, kindness, and lifelong learning. I see every challenge as an opportunity to grow, and I approach life with a sense of wonder and appreciation for the unexpected. If we ever find ourselves in conversation, expect thoughtful questions, plenty of enthusiasm, and probably a few good-natured tangents along the way.
